It’s Monday, so let’s meet some of the cast. In Fluffenders, the Grumps can’t sleep a wink, and they want the dreamy moonberries. The Fluffs don’t fight them off. As Granny Hoot puts it, “Bubbles, sneezes and cuddles will tuck them in.” A Grump that dozes off goes rosy in the cheeks, smiles and floats away on a little nap cloud.
There are sixteen Fluffs in all. Today it’s five from chapter 1 in Moonberry Meadow, lined up at the top from left to right: Bubbun, Achoo Kitty, Gulpy Frog, Dozy Mole and Woolly, with a Grumplet on its way. Bubbun and Woolly work quietly. The other three make a noise about it: a sneeze, a BOING and a burp.
Bubbun
Every game starts with Bubbun. It’s a white bunny with one ear flopped over at the tip and a yellow bubble wand, and on night 1, First Night, Granny Hoot’s very first tip is “Tap the Bubbun card!” A Bubbun costs 100 stardust and blows sleepy bubbles down its row, about one every second and a half. A plain Grumplet nods off after 14 of them.
On night 3, Acorn Caps, some Grumps turn up in acorn caps, and the game’s advice is short: “Its acorn cap soaks up bubbles. Knock it off first!” When a cap finally flies off, its Grump lets out a huff of steam. One of the game’s tips explains why you rarely see just one Bubbun: “Two shooters in a row stop a Grump twice as fast.”

Achoo Kitty
Achoo Kitty is an orange tabby kitten with a pink bow and three stripes on her forehead, and she joins after night 2, Twinkle Lights. She has one move. About a second after she lands, she breathes in, holds it and lets out a giant glitter sneeze that, in the game’s words, “sends every Grump nearby straight to dreamland.” Nearby means a block of three by three squares around her. Grumps don’t even stop to nibble her while she winds up. They just walk past.
She costs 150 stardust, and her card takes 50 seconds to come back, the longest wait of any Fluff. Hence the game’s tip: “Save Achoo Kitty for a big crowd of Grumps.”
Woolly
Woolly is a sheep, mostly wool, with a gray face and a white curl on top, and it joins after night 3. The game explains the plan: “So soft, so thick! Grumps nibble the wool for ages while friends do the work.” Woolly costs only 50 stardust and can take more than 13 times as much nibbling as a Bubbun. On night 4, The Whole Meadow, Granny Hoot’s tip is “Put Woolly in front to block Grumps!”
Woolly also lets you know how it’s going. After a good deal of nibbling, bits of wool go missing, the brows turn worried and a drop of sweat appears. Near the end, the whole fleece looks smaller and the smile goes wobbly.

Dozy Mole
Dozy Mole joins after night 5, Rolly Bowling, and costs just 25 stardust. The catch is in the name. Once planted, it naps underground for about 14 seconds, and all you see is a mound of dirt, a pink nose and the tip of a blue nightcap. Granny Hoot’s tip on night 6, Boing Boing: “Dozy Mole needs time to wake up!” A Grump that reaches the mole before then simply nibbles it.
Once it wakes, it pops up in a spray of dirt, nightcap and all, and waits. Grumps don’t nibble an awake mole. They walk right onto it, and BOING: every Grump within reach in that row falls asleep at once. That’s one BOING per mole, so it pays to plant the next one in good time.

Gulpy Frog
Gulpy Frog is a round green frog with a pale belly and a little leaf for a hat, and it joins after night 7, Pillow Fight. When a Grump comes within a square and a half, the frog opens wide and gulps it into a sleepy bubble, and the Grump floats away inside it. Then comes the catch: the frog “needs a long nap.”
The nap lasts 30 seconds. The frog looks rounder, its eyes close, a bubble shows in its belly and little Zs drift up. At the end, it burps and is ready for the next one. It can’t gulp a Pogo Grump in mid-bounce, and a boss is far too big for it.
The first two nights are free to play in your browser at fluffenders.com, with Bubbun on the lawn from the start and Achoo Kitty as the prize at the end of night 2. The full game is $4.99, paid once. More about the game is on its Fluffenders page.
